New Student Orientation Welcome Week

What is International Student Orientation?

International orientation is a series of events that helps you get familiar with the University of the Fraser Valley. You get to learn all about classes, programs, and life in Canada. And you also make lots of new friends!

Orientation for international students is required, as you need to check in with your documents (study permit).

Winter 2019 - Welcome Week Orientation Schedule

Wednesday, January 2, 2019, 12:00-4:00pm
Arriving Early? Get Ahead!

Get ahead start and learn about the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) campus community. 

Our Global Student Associates (GSA's) and Global Engagement Volunteers (GEV's) will be available from 12:00pm-4:00pm  at the Global Lounge (building B, room 223) to offer:

  • Campus Tours
  • Campus Card
  • Meet one of our student leaders and learn about UFV campus life

This event is optional.


Thursday, January 3, 2019, 8:30-1:00pm and Friday, January 4, 2019, 8:30-1:00pm
International Student Orientation Check-in

International Student Orientation is your opportunity to connect with other UFV students and campus resources to help you succeed. 

Here is what you can expect at your designated date for orientation:

  • Canadian pancake breakfast between 8:00-10:00am
  • Arrive at check-in between 8:30-10:30am
  • myUFV lab support, volunteers and UFV International staff will be available to teach you how to use your student account
  • Lunch
  • Learn about what is UFV academic policy
  • Meet your International Advising team and learn more about your academic program
  • Make new friends

UFV Welcome Day

The Welcome Day is your opportunity to connect with other UFV students, get to know our campuses and resources, and prepare to start classes with confidence. 

Here is what you can expect:

  • Welcome Ceremony
  • Student Success Workshops
  • Dinner
  • Opportunity to win an ipad mini and other prizes
  • Movie night
  • UFV Cascades Basketball game

What do we do at International Student Orientation?

International orientation are days full of information and fun! Here are just some of what you can expect at international orientation:

  • Check in with your study permit & passport.
  • Eat delicious food.
  • Meet new friends and your orientation student leaders, the Global Engagement Volunteers.
  • Participate in a UFV campus tour
  • Learn about UFV resources.
  • Learn about life in Canada — in class, at work, and in the community.
  • Use your UFV student email and find out your classes.
  • Participate in fun evening activities (dance, field-trip).

Where is International Student Orientation taking place?

International Student Orientation takes place in various locations on the UFV Abbotsford campus. New students will receive an email with more information as the date draws closer.

Should you arrive on campus and be unsure of next steps, please come to UFV International's office, located in room B223. Volunteers will be on hand to help direct you.
