What is UFV International Welcome Week?

UFV International Welcome Week is another term for orientation, a word that is used in Canada to describe an event that helps people learn how to be in a new environment!  It is a series of events that helps you get familiar with the University of the Fraser Valley. You get to learn all about classes, programs, and life in Canada. And you also make lots of new friends!

There are two main events that are mandatory to attend. The first is your Check-in Day, please bring your documents (study permit) on your chosen check-in day. The second event is Welcome Day. Please click on the link below for a digital copy of the full UFV Welcome Week schedule.

Thursday, April 25th, 2019 
Check-in Day 1

Check-in is an essential step to complete before the first day of classes. You have a choice to choose either Thursday, April 25th or Friday, April 26th as your designated check-in date. 

Here is what you can expect:

  • 9:00am-11:00am: Arrive at the Global Lounge for check-in at your Global Lounge (building B, room 223). Please make sure to bring your study permit.
  • 11:00am-12:00pm: Meet your International Advising team and learn more about your academic program
  • 12:00pm-4:00pm: Complete your Essentials Checklist. Learn how to log into your student acccount (myUFV), get your campus card or go on a campus tour with a student leader
  • *12:00pm-2:00pm: Lunch

Please complete your online registration form prior to orientation. If you have not received your registration e-mail please contact Sarah at sarah.gabor-martinez@ufv.ca 

Attending this event is mandatory.

 

Friday, April 26th, 2019
Check-in Day 2

Check-in is an essential step to complete before the first day of classes. You have a choice to choose either Thursday, April 25th or Friday, April 26th as your designated check-in date. 

Here is what you can expect:

  • 9:00am-11:00am: Arrive at the Global Lounge for check-in at your Global Lounge (building B, room 223). Please make sure to bring your study permit.
  • 11:00am-12:00pm: Meet your International Advising team and learn more about your academic program

Monday, April 29th, 2019
UFV Welcome Day

The Welcome Day is your opportunity to connect with other UFV students, get to know our campuses and resources, and prepare to start classes with confidence. 

Here is what you can expect:

  • 12:00-1:00pm: Welcome Ceremony, located at the South Gym in building E, room 176
  • 1:00-2:00pm: Academic Integrity Matters, located at the South Gym in building E, room 176
  • 2:00pm-4:00pm: Meet and Greet with your Faculty. Enjoy a pizza lunch, make friends in your program and connect with your faculty and program advisors.
  • 5:00-7:00pm: Welcome Party, located at the Alumni Hall in building B, room 201. Join us for good music, dancing, singing, movie night and board game fun. Free dinner will also be provided. Chance to win an ipad and other prizes.

What do we do at UFV International Welcome Week (Orientation)?

UFV International Welcome Week (orientation) are days full of information and fun! Here are just some of what you can expect at international orientation:

  • Check in with your study permit & passport.
  • Eat delicious food.
  • Meet new friends and your orientation student leaders, the Global Engagement Volunteers.
  • Participate in a UFV campus tour
  • Learn about UFV resources.
  • Learn about life in Canada — in class, at work, and in the community.
  • Use your UFV student email and find out your classes.
  • Participate in fun evening activities (dance, field-trip).

Where is UFV International Welcome Week taking place?

UFV International Welcome Week takes place in various locations on the UFV Abbotsford campus. New students will receive an email with more information as the date draws closer.

Should you arrive on campus and be unsure of next steps, please come to UFV International's office, located in room B223. Volunteers will be on hand to help direct you.
