Become an international student orientation CLIMB guide

CLIMB Guides are student leaders who help incoming international students navigate the process of UFV orientation. It is a great opportunity to get valuable experience, build skills, and make new friends. This position is focused on providing peer support, fostering engagement with students, and creating and supporting events that promote community building and a positive student experience. New students value the opportunity to hear your first-person insights into the UFV experience!

CLIMB Guides help new students

Incoming international students will enjoy meeting you and being able to ask you about your experience at UFV.

You can be a CLIMB Guide whether you are an international or domestic UFV student. You simply need to enjoy meeting new people and be willing to share details of your time at UFV, whether it is about academics or the social side of things. 

The CLIMB Guide will work closely with the UFV International Orientation team to ensure that new students feel welcome, supported, and informed about campus resources and opportunities.

As a CLIMB Guide, you help by doing the following:

  • Support our online sessions by answering questions and engaging with the new students by actively participating in the chat.
  • Host Campfire Chats where you will provide a safe space for new students to support them. 
  • Connect and check in with new students assigned to you.
  • Invite new students to Welcome Week events and other social events.

Mandatory Training Schedule

Attending training is mandatory to successfully become a CLIMB Guide. The training dates are as follows:

  • Group Audition | March 7, 2-4 pm or March 8, 10 am-12 pm, In-person
  • Peer support training | March 14, 12-4 pm or March 15, 11 am-3 pm, In-person.
  • Engagement Training | March 22, 12-4 pm or March 23, 11 am-3 pm, In-person.

Mandatory events

The following CLIMB Summer 2024 sessions are mandatory for all CLIMB Guides to attend:

  • Attend and show your support for at least 1 out of 3 of our online sessions, which will be held from 8:00 am to 9:30 am on April 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
  • Attend and host at least 2 out of 5 Campfire Chats (schedule available in the application form)
  • Being present for The Peak on May 3, 2024
  • Other activities include:
    • Organizing UNWIND events for new students during the month of May 2024.
    • Inviting new students to engage with other UFV communities.
    • Responding to other UFV-related questions posed by new students.
    • Providing support and engaging with new students in our Discord Channels
