The international administration fee is designed to keep annual increases to international tuition modest and consistent for current continuing international students. It is charged to international students only in their first and second semesters, as a way to better align fees with the time period international program costs are highest.
At UFV, like many universities that host international students, administration and recruitment costs are highest for first year international students. Specifically, the fee is meant to offset costs of pre-application, pre-arrival and new student advising, registration, orientation, and settlement support; as well as agent fees and related marketing and recruitment expenditures.
After their first academic year, having successfully adapted to UFV life and studies, international students don’t pay this administration fee. Instead, they, like the rest of the second, third and fourth-year international student population, will be able to budget for studies based on the university’s plan for a reasonable and predictable annual tuition increase (currently planned to be 3.2%).
