English upgrading

If you need to upgrade your English to get ahead in your profession or pursue university studies, UFV’s English as a Second Language (ESL) and Upgrading & University Preparation (UUP) program options are designed just for you.

If you are a full-time international student, UFV offers intensive English upgrading‌, ranging from intermediate to pre-university levels, with access to university courses at the highest levels.

What is your English level?

Your English test scores determine the level that is most suitable for you to start. Completion of each level normally takes one semester, or four months.

The first two levels of the ESL program allow you focus on improving your written and spoken English. After completing these two core levels, you can move on to the University Foundation program which allows you to take one university course while upgrading your English.

When you complete the program successfully, you meet the English requirements for your final upgrading semester in Qualifying Studies.  This pathway combines university-level course studies with English and academic skills upgrading to ensure that you are prepared and meet requirements for admission to your academic program.  Advisors tailor your timetable to your specific needs and interests.
