What is International Student Orientation?

International orientation is a series of events that helps you get familiar with the University of the Fraser Valley. You get to learn all about classes, programs, and life in Canada. And you also make lots of new friends!

Orientation for international students is required, as you need to check in with your documents (study permit).

International Student Orientation: Welcome Week Schedule

Summer 2018 Dates and Times


Location: Global Lounge, Building B, room 223
Time: Arrive between 9:30 am-12 pm
Date: Choose from one of our three check-in dates! 

  • Wednesday, April 25
  • Thursday, April 26
  • Friday, April 27

*UFV Baker house residents and exchange students check-in dates are Friday, April 27 only, due to Baker house check-in dates.

Register to confirm you have received a VISA letter (permit authorizing studies)

Official Welcome

Time: 10 am–6 pm
Monday, April 30, 2018

This is a mandatory event for all new international students.

Where is International Student Orientation taking place?

International Student Orientation takes place in various locations on the UFV Abbotsford campus. New students will receive an email with more information as the date draws closer.

Should you arrive on campus and be unsure of next steps, please come to UFV International's office, located in room B223. Volunteers will be on hand to help direct you.

What do we do at International Student Orientation?

International orientation are days full of information and fun! Here are just some of what you can expect at international orientation:

  • Check in with your study permit & passport.
  • Eat delicious food.
  • Meet new friends and your orientation student leaders, the Global Engagement Volunteers.
  • Participate in a UFV campus tour
  • Learn about UFV resources.
  • Learn about life in Canada — in class, at work, and in the community.
  • Use your UFV student email and find out your classes.
  • Attend in immigration and career workshops.
  • Participate in fun evening activities (dance, field-trip).

To learn more about your new university in Canada, download the International Student Handbook. It's full of information about policies, resources and services that will help you succeed as a university student. 


UFV is awesome! It provides small classrooms for better student and prof interaction. You can get involved in clubs and associations. And if you have any problems, there are always helpful staff members who will support you.
